“These students exemplify excellence in the classroom, on the field, and in their communities,” said Keith Poston, President of WakeEd Partnership. “We’re proud to support their continued education through this lasting legacy of Coach Pittard. His gift continues to open doors for deserving students who embody his values.”

The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship Fund was created in 2018 following a $2.7 million bequest from the late Robert Ray Pittard, a beloved Apex High School teacher and coach. His vision was to create a lasting impact by supporting student-athletes from Apex and Green Hope high schools as they pursue higher education. Since its inception, the Pittard Scholarship Fund has awarded $1.32 million in scholarships to 89 students.

This year’s cohort includes seven renewal recipients—outstanding student-athletes from the graduating classes of 2021 through 2024 who reapplied and demonstrated continued academic success. Notably, Nathan Herrick becomes only the second recipient in the program’s history to be awarded the scholarship for all four years of college. This year also marks a milestone: for the first time, a set of siblings have been named Pittard Scholars in the same year.
