Wake County Board of Education Adopts Budget

The Wake County Board of Education adopted a budget for the 2015-2016 school year.

It is the same budget as previously proposed by Supt. Merrill.

The $1.4 billion budget includes a local funding request increase of $48.3 million.  The increase requested funds growth and expansion of programs.  It also sets out to raise teacher salary in WCPSS to the national average over a period of five years.

The WCPSS local funding request is now passed on to Wake County.  County Manager Jim Hartmann will provide the Board of Commissioners a proposed budget for their consideration on May 18.  There will be a public hearing on the proposed Wake County budget on June 1, followed by a budget work session on June 8.  An adopted final Wake County budget will likely be presented on June 15.

WakeEd will follow the development of the Wake County budget and keep you informed along the way.
