WakeEd Partnership’s SummerSTEM Program for Wake County Teachers is Next Week

WakeEd Partnership (WakeEd) along with the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) will kick-off the 7th year of SummerSTEM on Monday, July 11. This is the first summer since 2019 SummerSTEM will be fully in-person for both professional learning and on-site workplace immersions.

WakeEd’s SummerSTEM is a program that enriches educators’ understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the workplace using Project-Based Learning (PBL) with an emphasis on STEM businesses and careers. In addition to direct instruction and coaching in lesson design, K-12 educators participate in immersive experiences with local companies, exploring targeted career fields they can take back to the classroom. This award-winning program typically reaches 100 teachers each year. More here: https://www.wakeed.org/programs/summerstem/

Next week, 76 WCPSS K-12 teachers visit 20 companies and workplaces across the Triangle. In addition, they will receive instruction in Project Based Learning (PBL). On Monday-Wednesday-Friday teachers will be working together at the Vernon Malone College & Career Academy (6-12 grade teachers) and the Wake STEM Early College High School (K-5 teachers) and will visit the 20 companies on Tuesday and Thursday. One immersion, BASF, is happening on Wednesday.

If you are interested in visiting/observing the training sessions or a workplace immersion and speaking with teachers and WakeEd and WCPSS representatives, contact Keith Poston at 919-780-5205 or kposton@wakeed.org.
