The primary responsibility of the Director of Development is to ensure the continued success and growth of the organization’s fund development program.  The Director of Development will oversee the development and management of annual giving campaigns, lead grant writing, grant reporting, special events, and related relationship-building activities. 20 hours per week. Hybrid in-person and remote.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with President, develop and implement WakeEd’s annual fund development plan to meet the mission and priorities of the organization, including strategies for individual giving, corporate giving, event sponsorships, workplace giving, foundation giving, major gifts, and capital funding.
  • Communicate persuasively the case to invest in WakeEd Partnership’s mission through personal visits, calls, written grants, and proposals, appeal letters, and reports.
  • Acknowledge all gifts and donations in a manner that expresses appreciation and ensures effective ongoing stewardship.
  • Ensure that donor database information is current and accurate and produce giving reports and donor target lists. WakeEd uses Kindful online donor management system linked with QuickBooks Online.
  • Lead and partner with the President, Fund Development Committee, and board members on all major fundraising initiatives to include identification and research of potential new donors.
  • Create and implement strategies for donor cultivation and engagement which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, cultivation, and engagement, and coordinate solicitation by other staff, board, or volunteers as appropriate.
  • Review and enhance the comprehensive stewardship cycle of existing donors to encourage continuing financial support and volunteer engagement.
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
  • Remain visible in the community by attending appropriate education, chamber of commerce, association, and community events to network, expand relationships, increase brand awareness, and have an impact.
  • Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices, and procedures used in the nonprofit sector to enhance internal efforts.
  • Identify and pursue new sources of corporate, foundation, and estate funding.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications Director to create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant applications.
  • Proven record of achieving revenue targets.
  • Three or more years of increasingly responsible management experience running nonprofit fundraising efforts.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and give effective presentations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with Kindful (preferred) or other fund development software.
  • Budget management and analytical skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
