]]>Fans attending the 7:30 p.m. match at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park are encouraged to bring new school supply donations to help stock the Tools4Schools store, which provides essential classroom materials to educators across Wake County—free of charge.
In addition, $3 from every ticket purchased through the special WakeEd link will be donated to Tools4Schools: https://tickets.nccourage.com/offers/1959. These tickets will also include a $10 merchandise voucher.
“Teachers are spending their own money on basic classroom needs for their students, and that’s unacceptable,” said WakeEd President Keith Poston. “Tools4Schools exists to ease that burden—and it’s only possible because of the incredible generosity of this community and partners like the NC Courage. We’re so appreciative of the NC Courage, who have supported Tools4Schools since we opened in 2022.”
As part of the evening, WakeEd Partnership will be honored at halftime as the charity of choice for NC Courage player Hannah Betfort, a nominee for the 2025 Lauren Holiday Impact Award. Hannah will wear a commemorative armband featuring a silhouette of the award’s namesake, Lauren Holiday.
Hannah has partnered with WakeEd to launch an innovative PE Takeover program, bringing soccer-based, hands-on learning experiences into local schools. Her goal is to make learning more fun and engaging by using the game she loves to inspire students.
Fans can also show their support for Hannah by participating in the Fan Impact Challenge, hosted at nwslsoccer.com from August 15–30. The nominee with the most fan engagement will win the challenge, and the charitable organization of their choice will receive an additional $10,000 donation from Nationwide. This event coincides with WakeEd’s ongoing Back to School with Tools4Schools Community Supply Drive, which runs through August 22. The eight-week drive helps ensure that teachers across WCPSS have the materials they need for the upcoming school year.
Since its launch in 2022, Tools4Schools has distributed over $1.6 million in free supplies to WCPSS educators. In the last school year alone, the store served more than 5,000 teachers from every WCPSS school. Surveys show that 94% of teachers said it helped reduce their out-of-pocket classroom spending—costs that average more than $1,000 per teacher per year.

]]>Originally launched in 2022 in partnership with the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), Career Accelerator has expanded each year—adding more high school sites, business partners, and program enhancements to reach more students across the district. In 2025, WakeEd Partnership assumed full leadership of the program.
On Tuesday and Thursday of the program (June 24 & 26) students will visit companies and organizations across Wake County that are offering career immersions in their workplaces. In addition to immersion experiences, students will receive coaching and instruction in other workforce development areas at the high school sites, such as online portfolio and resume building, social media use and interviewing skills featuring guest speakers from across the Triangle including HR and Recruiting professionals.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the companies and organizations opening their doors to these students,” said Keith Poston, President of WakeEd Partnership. “Career Accelerator gives students a front-row seat to the future of work in Wake County. These real-world experiences help them see not only what kinds of careers are out there—but how to get there.”
On Friday, June 27th there will be a Career and College Expo at Enloe High School for all students who participated featuring 65 businesses and local colleges and universities. Before the Expo, participants will hear from keynote speaker: Wake County District Court Judge Ashleigh Parker. Judge Parker will speak at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 27th at Enloe High School.
Judge Ashleigh Parker was raised in a family deeply rooted in law and public service, instilling in her a strong sense of duty and integrity from an early age. A graduate of law school with honors, she has dedicated her career to serving the people of North Carolina—as a District Court Judge, Assistant Attorney General, and Assistant District Attorney. Beyond the courtroom, Judge Parker is committed to legal education and mentorship, guiding aspiring lawyers and sharing her expertise to help shape the next generation of legal professionals. She firmly believes in the power of education and empowerment to create lasting, positive change in the justice system.
“Career Accelerator is a two-way opportunity: it’s a showcase for employers seeking talent and a launchpad for students exploring their future,” added Poston. “These students chose to spend a week of their summer preparing for life beyond high school, and that speaks volumes about their motivation and potential.”
The following companies and organizations hosting career immersions at their workplaces:
MEDIA ADVISORY: Members of the media who wish to attend one of the workplace immersions please contact Keith Poston at WakeEd Partnership at 919-780-5205 or kposton@wakeed.org to coordinate access.
The College and Career Expo for the students is open to the media on Friday, June 27th featuring 65 businesses and local colleges and universities and runs from 9:30-Noon. The keynote address by Judge Parker is at 9:30 AM.

“These students exemplify excellence in the classroom, on the field, and in their communities,” said Keith Poston, President of WakeEd Partnership. “We’re proud to support their continued education through this lasting legacy of Coach Pittard. His gift continues to open doors for deserving students who embody his values.”
The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship Fund was created in 2018 following a $2.7 million bequest from the late Robert Ray Pittard, a beloved Apex High School teacher and coach. His vision was to create a lasting impact by supporting student-athletes from Apex and Green Hope high schools as they pursue higher education. Since its inception, the Pittard Scholarship Fund has awarded $1.32 million in scholarships to 89 students.
This year’s cohort includes seven renewal recipients—outstanding student-athletes from the graduating classes of 2021 through 2024 who reapplied and demonstrated continued academic success. Notably, Nathan Herrick becomes only the second recipient in the program’s history to be awarded the scholarship for all four years of college. This year also marks a milestone: for the first time, a set of siblings have been named Pittard Scholars in the same year.
