Wake County Education Nonprofit Names Interim President, Begins Search for Leader in 2020
RALEIGH, N.C. — WakeEd Partnership (WakeEd), a business-backed nonprofit organization committed to supporting teachers and students in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), has announced the retirement of President Steve Parrott after nine years of service.
“As President of WakeEd Partnership, I felt blessed each day to be surrounded by an incredible staff
and partners who are committed to preparing our children for success in career and in life. It is truly a joy for me to reflect on our accomplishments of the past nine years.”
Those accomplishments include numerous national and local accolades, including the 2017 US2020 STEM Mentoring Award and the 2019 Partnership Award from the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center. WakeEd currently serves more than 84% of Wake County Public Schools through diverse programming.
During this time of transition, Caroline McCullen has accepted the role of Interim President. In addition to her robust professional experience in the education field, Caroline has served on and led WakeEd Partnership’s Board of Directors. Most recently, she served as Director of Education Initiatives for SAS.
“In many ways, joining the team at WakeEd feels like a homecoming, because I have served the organization in one capacity or another for almost 20 years,” said McCullen. “I’m am a former educator and lifelong learner. I remain an ardent advocate for public education and a vocal supporter of Wake County Public School System. I am excited about the future of WakeEd and the support we can provide to teachers and students in Wake County.”
For 36 years, WakeEd Partnership has served Wake County students and teachers through nationally recognized programs. “That great work will continue to make a difference in the new year.”
WakeEd’s Board of Directors is expected to name a permanent replacement in early 2020.
