Hall of Fame

Award-winning coach Vickie Peoples led Enloe High School swimmers and divers to victory for more than 26 years.

Before making her mark in North Carolina, Vickie was a champion herself, competing in swimming, diving, and gymnastics at the state and national level. A dedicated student athlete, Vickie was honored as an Iowa high school state champion in swimming and diving and later as a Big Eight gymnastics champion at Iowa State University.

Her talent for coaching brought her to North Carolina when she was hired as an assistant coach for North Carolina State University gymnastics. Several years later, Vickie was hired by the Wake County Public School System to teach health and physical education and coach swimming and diving at Enloe High School.

It was her stellar career as a swimming and diving coach that led to her WCPSS Hall of Fame induction, but it was her passion for coaching students of all levels – from beginners to an Olympic Gold Medalist – that brought her the most joy. Her swimming teams won a total of 10 NCHSAA state championships, 19 regional crowns, and 28 conference titles. Under her leadership, Enloe had 84 individual NCHSAA State Champions and 48 High School All Americans, and the 1996 USA High School Diving Champion. In 2006, her men’s team was ranked 6^th in the nation by Swimming World Magazine and the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

In addition to coaching, Vickie served as the Meet Director for the 4A Eastern Regional Championship and as a member of the NCHSAA Advisory Board for swimming and diving for 20 years. Her numerous awards and honors include an induction into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame (2010), Southeast Regional Coach of the Year (2001) and Enloe High School Teacher of the Year (2004-2005).

Vickie Peoples was inducted into the Wake County Public School System Hall of Fame in 2019.
