WAKE ED Insight – April Edition

\"Steve\"Sitting on my deck this weekend, basking in the 70-degree temperatures; it hit me – what happened to winter?

I blinked in February and now I’m staring at graduation invitations and Memorial Day pre-sales. That’s good for most of us that don’t like cold, but for WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel it was a rather dull winter. It’s a good thing we were able to give him plenty of excitement as the emcee for our second annual Triangle Trivia Challenge, sponsored by SunTrust.

Carolina Ale House served as the venue for the challenge. We engaged new audiences and raised more than $3,000 for our Teacher Innovation program. That’s enough for a group of teachers to impact students in their school and spread best practices to other WCPSS schools.

Read it for yourself (Click here for more). Ballentine Elementary School teacher Sonia Clark details how her Teacher Innovation scholarship two years ago still impacts her students today. You can help us choose the best projects by becoming a program scorer. Simply e-mail WakeEd Director of Programs, Teresa Pierrie at tpierrie@wakeed.org.

And it is my pleasure to announce the hiring of Tim Lavallee as VP of Policy and Research and Lisa Genschel as Office Manager. Take time to read their profiles included in the newsletter. (Click here to read Tim\’s bio. Click here to read Lisa\’s bio.)

That is just a small taste of what we have for you this month. As spring hits its stride, activity at WakeEd is busier than a beehive. Thank you for your continuing support as we work to improve public education in Wake County
