As Vice President of Policy and Research, Tim Lavallee reviews all state and federal educational policy issues as they relate to Wake County Public Schools. In addition, he will conduct research related to current educational trends.

Tim comes to WakeEd directly from the classroom. He was an elementary school teacher in Wake County Public School System for most of his 10-year teaching career. During his time in the classroom, Tim explored ways to innovate his teaching methods to improve student success and growth. He has experience working at the district level to implement components of the WCPSS Vision 2020 Strategic Plan.

Before starting his career in education, Tim was a print journalist for over a decade in the Boston suburbs. He primarily focused on writing community news. Tim gained extensive experience working with local political and business leaders. He received many awards for writing from the regional newspaper association. As a journalist, Tim served in many roles as reporter and editor in both urban and rural communities and frequently reported on school issues.

Tim grew up in Massachusetts, but he likes to say he got to North Carolina as fast as he could. He, his wife, two children, and two dogs have lived in Wake County for 10 years. Both of his children attend Wake County Public Schools. When he’s not at the Partnership, he might be seen along the banks of Falls Lake or the Neuse River with his kids and a fishing pole or two – but rarely with any fish.
