…The Academic Standards Review Commission has received word that they will receive the $250,000 in funding to complete their work as first promised. The money will cover expenses of commission members, hire staff, bring experts to provide information, and pay for research to be conducted.

…Brentwood Elementary has been named one of North Carolina’s top STEM schools. It was the only elementary school, and the only WCPSS school, honored. The honor recognizes the school across eleven STEM attributes determined by the NC Department of Public Instruction.

…WCPSS remains #1 nationally in the number of National Board Certified teachers in a school district. It is the ninth consecutive year the district has held this distinction.

…Teach For America (TFA) officials are warning that they could miss recruitment targets by as much as 25 percent. They note college graduates are less interested in teaching. Why? Specifically, they cite a sharp drop in teacher satisfaction and, “an increasingly polarized public conversation around education, coupled with shaky district budgets, is challenging the perception of teaching as a stable, fulfilling profession.” There’s also the pushback and “polarization” that TFA has experienced as an organization.
