RALEIGH – Five Broughton High School teachers have been awarded Jenrette Teacher Growth Grants. The grants, administered by Wake Education Partnership, were delivered in December 2006.
“These grants are important as a tangible way that our teachers can enhance their professional growth. The Partnership is committed to supporting teacher professionalism and student achievement by administering these grants,” said Debbie Lucas, chair of the Jenrette Teacher Growth Grants Review Committee.
Begun in 1997 with funds donated by Richard Jenrette, a 1947 Broughton graduate, the grants are awarded to teachers who wish to participate in professional growth and development opportunities. Recipients include the following teachers: Nancy Carty (two grants), Winifred Cherry, Patricia Ligon, Mary-Kathryn Pate and Alice Sprinkle.
“I’m honored to be selected to receive a Jenrette teacher growth grant. The grant will allow me to attend a conference on global education that will be important to me as I continue to work with the International Baccalaureate program at our school,” said Wynn Cherry, IB coordinator at Broughton. “Mr. Jenrette has supported teachers and our school in many significant ways. I’m very grateful for his financial support to make such a workshop a reality for me.”
